Neil Reiner, MD                   Chief Scientific Officer, Chairman of the  dddddddddddddddddd       Scientific Advisory Board and Director

Dr. Reiner is an internationally recognized authority on host-pathogen interactions. He is a Professor and Research Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital, where he was formerly the longstanding Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases. In addition, Dr. Reiner also serves as Director of the Immunity and Infection Research Centre of the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. 

 Julian Davies, PhD         

Dr. Davies is Emeritus Professor of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of British Columbia. Formerly Executive Vice President of Technology at Cubist Pharmaceuticals, a leader in antibiotic discovery; a founder and CSO of TerraGen, which was acquired by Cubist; Dr. Davies also served as Research Director and President of Biogen and President of the American Society for Microbiology.

 Brett Finlay, PhD             

Dr. Finlay is an internationally recognized infectious diseases researcher and the recipient of the E.W.R. Steacie Prize, the Fisher Scientific Award from the Canadian Society of Microbiologists, a British Columbia Biotech Innovation award, the Michael Smith Health Research Prize, the IDSA Squibb Award, the Jacob Biely Prize, the Canadian Killam Health Sciences Prize, and the Flavelle Medal of the Royal Society. He is presently the Peter Wall Distinguished Professor at the University of British Columbia where he focuses on host-pathogen interactions at the molecular level. A cofounder of Inimex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and director of the SARS Accelerated Vaccine Initiative where he chairs the Scientific Advisory Board, Dr. Finlay is a primary investigator for Genome Canada’s PREPARE project and a Howard Hughes investigator.

 Irwin Kuntz, PhD              

Dr. Kuntz is one of the pioneers in area of rational drug design. His research focuses on the determination of protein structure in solution, fast folding processes in proteins, and structure based molecular design. He is Professor Emeritus of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and former Associate Dean of Research at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and founder and past director of the UCSF Molecular Design Institute.

 David Shlaes, MD, PhD  

Dr. Shlaes has had a 30-year career in anti-infectives, spanning academia and industry, with a longstanding scientific interest in antimicrobial resistance. Formerly Executive VP of R&D at Idenix Pharmaceuticals Dr. Shlaes also served as VP of Infectious Diseases at Wyeth and Chief of Infectious Diseases at Case Western University. The author of the recently published book, Antibiotics – The Perfect Storm, Dr. Shlaes is an editor of the peer-reviewed journal, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
